Occasionally, Brisbane City Council bravely asks the public for ideas regarding public space. In this case, they were curious what shall be done with some rather large holes left in the ground by decades of mining. Whilst some argue it should be remediated like traditional mine sites, others believe that you should slap a hotel on it and privatise public land. The answer to me was somewhat obvious: fill it with water, drop in a cable car and bring back Southbank’s monorail.

“A recreation dreamland, accessible by innovative, low impact monorail and cable car, shuttle buses running to the closest stations.

Swimming, stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), outdoor rock climbing, a sun lawn, dense nature, flowering shrubs and the Brisbane and a true-blue waterhole to replace the quite frankly insufficient Enoggera reservoir.

The Southern Hemisphere’s coolest public swimming spot.”
